Black Rock desert is a great backdrop for radical self-expression… it is wild and raw, a perfect playground for the wilder part of our self that lives just below the surface of socialization… though the desert environment and around-the-clock circus at burning man inevitably takes a toll on the mind, body, and spirit… you can go from feeling like you are in burning man heaven to feeling like coyote s*#t in a gerlach minute.
Yoga4Burners can help keep you feeling fabulous all the time… whether you’re a novice to yoga or have many years of experience, yoga4burners will give you a unique foundation for responding to what our research designates to be 5 of the most common occurrences on the playa.
Join Nicole Doherty and Gino Dante Borges to come into contact with your ‘true burner self’ and learn some easy poses that you can take with you wherever you quest at Burning Man.

Stop Oil Contamination in The Amazon – Historic Forum on Oil Contamination in Iquitos, Peru
A New Wave of Hope in the Amazon:
Unification of the Indigenous Tribes of the Amazon against Oil Exploitation.
After suffering decades of division, disorder and destruction driven by multinational oil companies plundering the Amazon Rainforest, twelve distinct local indigenous groups from the eight different major tributaries that become the Amazon River set aside their differences to stand together against the forces that have thus far marginalized them!
Upriver from Iquitos, more than five hundred Indigenous and Mestizo communities survive in a rainforest world with few wires or roads, still close to nature and their ancient roots. While far from idyllic or utopian, these communities could otherwise choose the pace and course of their development if not for the invasive and destructive scourge of oil.
In an unprecedented move to unify their efforts to stop oil contamination in the Amazon, over 150 leaders from the Indigenous Federations of Loreto gathered in Iquitos, Peru on July 7th. Answering their call, Alianza Arkana and other organizations such as Amazon Watch helped make this event possible, covering the costs to transport the leaders downriver and providing them with accommodations and a venue in Iquitos to develop a solid political platform to present to newly elected President Ollanta Humala when he takes office on July 28th.
Alianza Arkana is a Peruvian non-profit working with US sister organizations focused on the protection and preservation of the Peruvian Amazon, its people and traditions. For more information on this organization visit: http://www.alianzaarkana.org
Alianza Arkana needs our help to raise the final $5,000 needed to subsidize the costs of this historic forum! Donate Now
We issue this urgent call for financial support. The forum is the idea of the Indigenous people and we have been asked to support them. While it represents their agenda, the struggle includes us all; we all live on the same planet and all of our lives depend on the protection of the Amazon Rainforest. Please consider the significance of this event and the potential impact it will have, not just here in the Amazon, but stoking the growing flames of resistance against oil companies across the planet.
We have a duty as a species to care for our planet and now is the time to help these warriors defend the most important Rainforest left on our planet!

TO DONATE: http://www.chebisabbah.org/
Fundraiser Event: FUNDRAISER THIS FRIDAY AT 1015 FOLSOM in San Francisco
Dear Friends and Fans of Cheb i Sabbah:
Recently, our dear friend and musical pioneer Cheb i Sabbah was diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer at San Francisco General Hospital. He was advised that the cancer was spreading to his liver and left lung. Without immediate and proper treatment, the prognosis given is very grim. The phrase “weeks maybe months” was repeated to a devastated group of close friends and family who were there to support him as he received the heartbreaking news.
Like many Americans, “Chebiji” — as he is affectionately known — does not have health insurance. Private health insurance is astronomically expensive and public state funded health insurance barely provides the most basic treatment — and it does so only if you qualify. Due to his weak health condition, Chebiji found himself having to cancel live shows, meaning his income stream has come to a complete halt, with mounting medical bills and future medical costs ahead.
Upon learning of his condition, a few close friends and artists have come together to rally around Chebiji and assist him with his fight. Devastated by the news and outraged that an artist of Chebiji’s caliber cannot afford to care for himself and receive the proper urgent medical treatment needed, we have set up a fund to help.
Please help by donating and spreading the word to your communities. With our financial support, love and healing thoughts let’s help Chebiji receive proper medical care and beat this cancer. Chebiji’s debut album for Six Degrees Records, Shri Durga, is considered one of the true classics of South Asian Fusion. Although he was born in Algeria, Sabbah’s unique affinity for the music of India and Pakistan has resulted in some of the most distinctively beautiful marriages of tradition and “DJ Science” ever recorded. Following Shri Durga, Sabbah’s recordings featuring collaborations with Indian master musicians include Krishna Lila & his latest studio recording Devotion as well as the Maha Maya remix project. On La Kahena (and it’s subsequent remix project La Ghriba), Chebiji returned to the music of his North African homeland with equally mesmerizing results.
Cheb i Sabbah has led a fascinating life, with stints as one of the very first DJ’s to spin records in the early Parisian Discothèques more than forty five years ago. As an actor he worked for two decades with the famed Living Theatre and as a director and cutup sound manipulator, he created the group Tribal Warning Theatre, performing with Psychic TV in his adopted home of San Francisco in the early eighties. He has managed the great Global Jazz icon Don Cherry who insisted that Sabbah continue his DJ mission and quoted him as “a professor of music”; Sabbah eventually ended up on stage with Don mixing layers, sound-scapes and beats way before software and laptops. As a promoter, under the banner of 1002 Nights, he was the first person to book concerts with artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Khaled, Hakim, Transglobal Underground and a host of electro and world musicians from Asia, Arabia and Africa.
Sabbah’s influence on the global electronic music and DJ scene cannot be over estimated. He has shown two entire generations that classical world traditions can blend beautifully and respectfully with DJ Culture. It is our hope that the many people from around the planet who have been touched by his music, might be able to give back however they can in his time of need.
The fans and friends of Cheb i Sabbah have experienced his music and artistic vision through his many albums. For those of us who can recount those ecstatic moments on his dance floors — whether in Goa, Essaouira, Moscow or at Nickie’s, where he ran an eighteen year San Francisco weekly residence, we know what a beautiful gift Sabbah has been to the world at large. This is our opportunity to give something back to Cheb i Sabbah in his time of need.
Please donate generously and spread the word about this wonderful artist and human being. Remember that this could happen to any of us. Donate not only to Chebiji but donate as a way of expressing your support for the millions of uninsured Americans who quietly suffer the undignified humiliation of not being able to fend for themselves simply because their economic and social status.
Thank You and Blessings to All.

Results are in! Empower Yourself to Transform Workshops are Complete.
Results are in! Empowering Yourself to Transform Workshops are Complete.
We just completed my post-South American spiritual journey inspired workshop series called Empower Yourself to Transform™. I must say the jungle did us good! We experienced two weeks of Yoga every morning and 3.5 hour Sunday Workshops that included one hour of motivational speaking and two hours of meditation, chanting, pranayama and Yoga. The Sundays were just outstanding!
Getting up every morning at 6:15a to get over to The Dance Loft in San Francisco was no small feat. I was used to doing this when working with the Amazonian Shamans since they rise with the sun, but in the city, when it’s cold and windy, it’s a different feeling. But every morning like clockwork, I entered that beautiful studio and found myself remarkably at home, on my mat breathing. I was so inspired that by the 7th day I started a food cleanse so I could boost my energy naturally instead of using those morning lattes!
We worked through the Chakra system for the first 7 days visualizing each energy body, beginning to understand where it is and how it affects the whole body temple. We observed each chakra as a container and asked to release emotional tension, resistance or fear. We went within to understand where blocks might reside. We accepted the emotions as they bubbled up and addressed them with compassion and love.
Sunday, May 8th was Mother’s Day and our Releasing Negative Thoughts and Patterns workshop. What a perfect day! For the moms in the room we gave eternal gratitude for their courage to bring energy into form, into matter, the root word for mother.
We discussed the human condition of the mind and its role in our experience here on this plane of existence. We explored how we use tools like Yoga, Meditation, and Inspirational Teachings to guide us out of the subconscious negative thinking to a more conscious awareness of who we really are.
We learned to not think of “negative” as being bad, but as a gift and a signpost along our journey that we can acknowledge to help guide us to decisions that feel good. Negative is not to be judged as bad, but simply the opposite of positive. We addressed the concepts of negative thoughts being fear and resistance. Once we could see our fears and resistance we could acknowledge those fears, identify the resistance and challenge our thoughts. In challenging our thoughts we became creative and could see other perspectives. We also played with tools from Yoga and the Law of Attraction. In Yoga when we are addressed with negative thoughts we replace them with positive ones, called Pratipaksha Bhavana. In the Law of Attraction, we call this Pivoting.
On Sunday, May 15th it was Bay to Breakers in San Francisco. A big day of celebration in the city, so it was vibrating with some seriously fun energy! This was our Tools for Transformation workshop day. This workshop was designed to be the follow up to the prior week. Once we release emotion and identify our resistance what do we do with this new information? I have spent the last several years in deep study of the Laws of the Universe and I wanted to share some fun games that I’ve encountered along the way. We laughed, we shared, we cried. It was a beautiful day. We watched videos about the power of language and words. We shared some of our patterns of thought. We explored partner work using affirmations and journaling. We powerfully affirmed each other’s gifts. We used engaging tools from the Law of Attraction work and other great inspirational teachers. In the end, we started to feel how we really could EMPOWER OURSELVES TO TRANSFORM™!
After each inspirational discussion, we got on our mats and explored the various gifts that we were granted 5000 plus years ago. I’m sure these gifts are a lot older than the recording of them. We practiced meditation and pranayama techniques to clear our mind and extend our prana through the breath. We chanted beautiful mantras and then opened our bodies with Yoga asanas.
Just writing this I get goose bumps (or as my friend calls them, truth bumps!). This work really resonates with my heart. I know that my path, my dharma, is to help inspire people to reach their highest potential. I am here for Joy and Love. That’s it. I want to bring you more Joy and Love!
Below are testimonials from some of the workshop attendees. If you wish to bring these workshops to your city, I would be honored and I love to travel!
“You are pure BRILLIANT Nicole-your words of wisdom, your knowledge, your teachings all truly Inspiring and Uplifting!” ~Val C
“Thank you for such a great workshop. Even though it was just an afternoon it shed light on what has been happening for me this entire year. Such a gift you are! ” ~ Michelle M.
“Add “motivational speaker” to the already impressive array of hats that miss Doherty wears. I just attended her Sunday class on “How to get rid of negative thoughts and patterns” and have instantly noticed a boost in my energy, outlook and general satisfaction with life. I only wish the sessions were longer and had more interaction between classmates. Next up: Tools for Transformation. If I am a better yoga practitioner and person at the end of this year, Nicole will surely be a huge part of it.” ~ Michi V.
“I have been taking private yoga as well as group yoga from Nicole for a couple of years and she is a truly gifted teacher. Her warm approach and extensive knowledge of anatomy make taking class with Nicole not only relaxing but beneficial for our tired, tight bodies. Most recently I attended a workshop called Empower Yourself to Transform with Nicole. The information she gave us was very helpful and pertinent to anyone’s yoga practice. The fun style in which the workshop was held makes it accessible for any level yoga student from the beginner to the seasoned yogi.” ~ Roxanne G
“Thanks sssooooooo much for the workshop. I truly enjoyed it. I’ve already had 3 opportunities to apply what we learned about the power of words! It is amazing how sharing that with 3 different friends was so inspiring. I didn’t really intend that to happen. I was just going to start applying it for myself. But, Sunday evening a friend called and said something like, “Wouldn’t it be nice if all I had to do is (blah blah blah?)” And, I just said, “OMG, I have to share what I just learned in this workshop today!” And, we just had a great laugh. Then, early this morning, a friend started texting me from NYC about how horrible her life was going to be as soon as she moved and how she wasn’t looking forward to it. And, of course, I immediately sent her the video via email and started explaining the power of words and what I’d learned. Then, this afternoon, I was talking to a friend about her career….same thing! So, I just wanted to share with you the impact you made on my life this week and thank you again for an amazing yoga class. I look forward to another one soon.” ~ Lisa H
